22 11th 2023A great solo Langtang Valley trek with Good Vibe Adventures
In October 2023 I did two solo treks with Good Vibe Adventures, both with the same porter-guide, Mr Chandra Shestha. The first trek was a 3 day warm-up trek in the Kathmandu Valley, through the Shivapuri National Park to Chisapani and Nargarkot.
This was followed by an 8 day trek to Langtang Valley, climbing to Kyanjin Ri (4,700m).
I did a lot of research to choose Good Vibes, comparing many different trekking companies. I wanted a solo trek with a guide-cum-porter, all costs included, single room accommodation in tea houses, all my meals, permits, etc. I also looked for a trekking company that could loan me the use of duffel, down jacket, and trekking poles instead of making me to purchase or rent these items. I am 61 years old and spoke to a number of people who had found the pace of their trekking groups to be too demanding, so wanted to walk at my own slower pace.. I wanted to enjoy my trekking, not just to feel like I had survived it!!
I contacted many trekking companies that had excellent current reviews, and Kisan Thapa at Good Vibe Adventures in Thamel fulfilled all of my requirements, and quoted me one of the lowest daily rates. Kisan was very friendly and helpful, offering lots of information.
Chandra Shrestha, the guide-cum-porter that Good Vibe Adventures arranged for both of my treks, was excellent. Chandra was concerned with my health while trekking, made sure that I had plenty of breaks while walking, purchased me many cups of ginger honey tea, and after every dinner would provide me with a dessert plate of fruit. Every day, Chandra would phone ahead to secure me a single room at the best teahouses. On the day that we were in Kyanjin Gompa, Chandra convinced me to depart for the lower peak of Kyanjin Ri at 4.30am. We were the only trekkers to walk up at that early hour and the first people to the summit in time for the sunrise. I was very glad that he had made the recommendation. Chandra was good company and I felt I was in safe hands.
Good Vibe Adventure is not a large trekking company, but I thoroughly recommend them for their quality and professionalism.
